I bought this beautiful postcard at a Disney Outlet store in Orlando in 2004. This must have been sold when the park first opened, because it doesn't feature any representation of the Asia section, and it features the closed boat ride with the dragon.
Great artwork....and funny post title! I wish DAK had gotten the mythological section that it was originally supposed to have instead of Campy Mickey and Minnie. Did they actually have the dragon alongside the boat ride at one time? The boats had already been removed by the time I got to see the park.
ReplyDeleteYes, Beastly Kingdom really should have been built! My first visit to Animal Kingdom was in 2004, so the boats were not open for my visit, either. As I understand it, there was no actual dragon figure to see---fire just shot out of a cave!
ReplyDeleteThere is a line of Animal Kingdom character merchandise for sale right now that features Madam Mim as a dragon. I have a postcard of it, but it is one of those shiny lenticular cards that doesn't scan too well.
Well, DL Paris has a dragon in a cave underneath their castle and Tokyo DL had a dragon inside their castle up until 3 years ago. Would it have been that difficult to just duplicate one of the dragons and stick it in the cave? I'm sure they didn't want to spend the money. Unfortunately, that is what's wrong with the Disney parks today....except for Tokyo because those two parks aren't owned by Disney!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering why they couldn't just use Tokyo's old dragon---but since Disney doesn't own that park, I guess they couldn't.
