Many years ago, I collected Topps Wacky Packages. This was a line of trading card stickers that got started in 1967. Wacky Packages were spoofs of everyday products. I still have a book of my 1980s era Wacky Packages somewhere.
Here we have Headhunter Helper from Betty Chopper (Shrunken Head Sauce Mix! Just Add Noggins!).
"You've Been Served" Count Funkula from Gangsta Shizzle. Enjoy the Bits of Bling Bling!
These two stickers are from a 2005 release that my sister-in-law gave me. I have more from this run, but these two just struck me as being really funny for some reason. This is a clever twist on Hamburger Helper and Count Chocula.
I also collected Topps Garbage Pail Kids. My mother hated Garbage Pail Kids, and she got rid of mine very quickly when she heard I wasn't interested in buying any more. I had a ton of them! I really should have kept my big mouth shut, because I think it would be fun to look at those again.
I used to collect Wacky Packages! I have a bunch that I recently got out and put in those clear "collectors card" pages. I rarely used any of them as stickers. I think I only did that if I had "doubles." There are a couple books that were published recently that show every sticker from series 1 through series 14. There is even a Wacky Packages Calendar for 2009. I LOVE WACKY PACKAGES!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED those and so wish I still had some. Please please feel free to post more of these!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Robyn
TokyoMagic!: Very cool! I did not use mine as stickers until I found a Wacky Packages Album at a convenience store at the time I was collecting. I have got to see if I can find the book showing series 1-14 and the calendar(never knew about those)!
ReplyDeleteRobyn: Glad you liked them, and I'll post more!
Dan...there are actually two books. The first one (red cover) has series 1-7 and the second one (blue cover) has series 8-14. I haven't gotten that one yet...it was just released. My brother gave me the first volume and the calendar for my birthday. The book's cover is made of paper similar to the original package wrappers and the calendar comes with some repro stickers from the earlier series.
ReplyDeleteThose sound great, TokyoMagic! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for them. I'd guess that since the series has been going on for so long, some gags get reused, but the artwork changes with the times, giving us a twisted time capsule.
ReplyDeleteI love Wacky Packages. Always have!! I have a few I've had since the 70's. Being a huge monster cereal fan, I really DIG the Count Funkula card you have there!!
ReplyDeleteDarrin, I knew you'd appreciate Count Funkula! I've got to see some of the older Wacky Packages.
