Contemporary Boo Berry

Boo Berry Cereal from General Mills is tough to find where I live, so when I saw a box of the blueberry-flavored breakfast treat while I was shopping this evening, I snatched it up without hesitation. Ironically, I found it at a grocery store called Bruno's, which was once a major chain, but they recently closed many locations, making the store difficult to find these days.

Boo Berry was first introduced to the line of Monster Cereals in 1973. His look has been changed over the years, evolving into a friendlier-looking ghost. He got a retro re-design not too long ago, and I really like his new appearance! It is very much in the "spirit" of the original look, but it has been tweaked and updated.

The back of the box features a cut-out Scary Monsters Poster. Count Chocula and Frankenberry were not available at Bruno's, so I did not get to see their posters.

  1. Mmmm... I'm more of a Frankenberry Man, but I need my Boo and Count fix from time to time as well!! I just wish they still had those great cereal premiums fromy ears past!!

  2. That reminds me that I have some unused glow in the dark Fruit Brute sticker premiums somewhere around here. I wonder what they'd go for now on ebay?

That's cool that you found Boo Berry. I found Quisp on sale at Albertson's grocery store here in Southern California about 10 years ago. Hadn't seen it forever...and I haven't seen it since. Still don't know what it was doing there....but I bought some!

  3. Darrin: I love Frankenberry! I would have bought that also if I saw it. They sure don't make cereal premiums like they used to, you are right!

TokyoMagic!: Yes, I bet you could sell those Fruit Brute Stickers. But that is such a cool item to have---I wouldn't want to get rid of that!

I remember reading about Quisp being for sale online and in some specialty stores. I never got to try it.

  4. Okay, so does anyone remember a cereal from the early-mid 90s that was "royalty"-themed? It seems like there were three variants: one box had a king, one box had a queen, and one had either a prince or a jester. My sibs and I never really latched on to the Monsters line, but we ate that king stuff by the boxful.

  5. I never had it, but I could it have been King Vitamin?

  6. I remember Quisp tasting more or less the same as Captain Crunch, but it was in the shape of little flying saucers!

  7. King Vitamin! That's it!

  8. TokyoMagic!: I've noticed a lot of cereals taste like Captain Crunch. I just tried a cereal called Honey Graham Oh's (made by the same company as Captain Crunch) and it actually tastes sweeter, even though it looks more like an adult's cereal.

Peyton: I remember seeing King Vitamin all the time. What did it taste like?

  9. King Vitamin! They still made it up to a few years ago. I used to sell it online when I ran a Frankenberry website. I had an online store that sold hard to find cereals like Quisp, Monster Cereals, etc.

  10. The Internet is amazing---I know you can find obscure candy online, too! I think you can order directly from manufacturers online, too (at least you could at one point).

  11. I really don't recall what King Vitamin tasted like... probably similar to Cap'n Crunch (regular, plain ol' Cap'n Crunch). Like I said, though, we ate it up as kids.
